Seems that CMS is on a roll this week with new and proposed regulations. Home care regulations were last updated in 1989. While a proposed rule was issued in 1997, it was never completed.
So, to the 12,000+ home care agencies out there, looks like it is time for a regulatory facelift!
The biggest changes are a requirement that patient rights are explained to them in a language they understand. Another key area, which I think most agencies are already addressing is development of programs to control and prevent infections and communicable diseases.
