Gamification

Relias Learning has made completing modules even more engaging through the use of gaming elements!  Gamification has been proven to increase learner engagement and retention, as well as improve compliance and exam scores.

As Learners complete modules, they can earn coins and seals to decorate a crest and move up through levels.  Review the sections below for more information regarding what coins and seals are, how to earn them, and to get a better idea of what changes are taking place!

Coins

Coins can be used in the Store to purchase décor for their crests, to gift seals to other Learners, or to make upgrades or adjustments to their existing seals or crest.  Learners earn coins by completing modules within the RLMS.  The number of coins a Learner may earn from one completion is based upon module type, exam score, and due date.

Coin Rules

Base Value Coins

  • The number of coins a completion earns (if module is passed successfully) regardless of exam score or due date

Exam Score Coins

  • Exam coins start with the base value determined by module type
  • For every ONE percentage point the Learner earns above 80%, the Learner earns 10 more coins
    • The Learner only receives exam score coins if s/he scores over 80%

Early Bird Coins

  • For every ONE day before the module’s due date, the Learner may earn 10 coins per day
  • Early Bird Coins are maxed at 300 coins
    • Example:  If a Learner completes a module 90 days early or 30 days early, the Learner only receives 300 early bird coins for completing the module before the due date

Important to Note

  • Modules that do not have final exams are not eligible to earn exam score coins, including all live events
  • Modules that require an Administrator or Supervisor to mark the Learner complete will award base value coins but do not receive Early Bird or Exam Score coins
  • Elective modules earn seals and coins but not bonus coins for early completion
  • Overdue modules are only eligible to earn Base Value and Exam Score coins.  The Learner must complete all overdue coursework in order to earn any Early Bird coins on modules that are not yet overdue.

Levels

Learners ‘level up’ based on completing modules. Levels are determined by the number of modules Learners have taken. Coins are not tied to levels. As levels increase, the number of modules required to pass the level increases – see table below.

Learners have access to more, and more detailed, seals as they move up levels.

Seals

Seals are earned by Learners after each course or event completion.  Seals are related to Levels, and become more intricate as the Levels increase.  Seals are the images that Learners will use to decorate the interior of their personal crest.

  • A Learner who is in Level 3 can earn seals from Levels 1, 2, or 3.
  • Learners will always earn a seal at module completion, however, seals are random and there is a chance that a specific seal may be earned by a single individual more than once.
  • Seals cannot be purchased in the Store.
  • Seals cannot be earned for overdue modules.

Store

The store is where Learners can manipulate earned seals, gift seals to friends within their respective organization, purchase décor, and purchase a crest upgrade.  Each store item costs the Learner a specific number of coins.

  • Learners can personalize their seals by changing their color
  • Crest upgrades will allow Learners to purchase more intricate crest frames to personalize

Gifting a seal to friends can be done for any reason, but requires spending coins to do so.  There is no limitation around when or why a seal can be gifted.

After purchasing new seals or making adjustments to current seals, Learners can Exit Store, Continue Shopping or go straight to their crest via Edit Crest.
