Okay, this is going to be really random. I was singing a song today. I'm frequently singing a song, and it can be situational, inspired by a conversation, but usually, I just become aware I am singing. I don't understand how my brain shuffles its inner CD's, so it is probably not completely random, I just don't know what the selection criteria is.
So, I am singing along with David Lee Roth, "I aint got nobody, nobody, cares for me, nobody, nobody, cares for me. I am so sad and lonely..." And then, bizarrely, my colleague and I are talking about great music videos from the 80's and I realized, you know, that david lee roth video was a pretty good video. Do you remember MTV? The set up was David Lee Roth was crashing everyone else's music videos, such as Cindy Lauper's 'Girl's Just want to have Fun,' Billy Idol video, a Willie Nelson video...
I know I liked other videos. I also hated videos. Do you know the song "Pure Energy" by Information Society? I kind of like the song. I am probably bias due to the fact that that 80's song ripped Spock from a 60's Star Trek episode saying "Pure Energy." (It's life, Jim, but not as we know it.) So, if you accept they ripped Spock saying pure energy, and apply contextual meaning to the remaining lyrics, one would assume that the video might be spacey, but not necessarily space cadet-ish! Really, watch the video. It makes no sense. It's like a bunch of ADHD force fed sugar intravenously on top of meth who then play with cartoonish hammers hitting their fellow band members and it's incoherent and clashing and... What in the world?!
"John, you're asking for things to make sense?" my colleague asked.
"YES! Thank you., please, a little." Now, clearly, they had studio producer working with them, right? I doubt these bands did their own video productions. Did they like sit around a coffee table and plot this out? And if they did, didn't anyone raise their hand and say, "Um, excuse me, producer, did you actually listen to our song?"
Why don't musicians and actors rebel? Aliens 3? I would have sent the script back. "Next. Sorry, I'm Sigourney and I can't sign off on this because, it reflects badly on me. I am a great actress, but I can't even pretend to sell this script."
Oh, and all of that because, "I'm so sad and lonely..."
I wonder if there is a connection.
