When most people think of holidays they think of family, friends and fun. If you are a person that has lost immediate family or close friends, whatever the circumstances, holidays can be tough. I fall in to the category of holidays can be tough. I remember a time when I looked forward to the holidays, traveling and visiting with friends and family. As the years flew by I lost siblings and parents and the holidays became kind of a depressing. To fight holiday depression I try to make plans and stick to them. The worst thing you can do to yourself is to isolate yourself. I try to volunteer at least one day because it exposes me to new people and opportunities. I try to connect with current and old friends and spend time with my remaining family members. All of these things help but in the back of my mind I am always thinking of the people not around. I guess it is another time to be in the moment and appreciate what you have and try not to think to much about the past.
