As we head into the polls this year, I have heard some people mention the idea of term limits for all elected officials and not just the Presidency. I just wanted to see what others thought about the issue. And if so how many terms should be served?
I'm afraid I don't know enough about the pros and cons to make an informed decision. I consider myself moderately well informed about politics, but this isn't something I've looked into very much.
It's no problem BRANDY SCOTT. I'm in the same boat, but I have heard it thrown around quite a bit and thought I'd see if anyone had more insight on it. I don't consider my self affiliated with any party either so I really try to get as much info as possible before I vote for anyone.
Limited to one term. The world is in a mess. The healthcare has gone down the tubes. (Did you know that the USA pays for healthcare for Puerto Rico?) My Grandmother was Puerto Rican, and why is the USA making the healthcare such a mess for us? Trump is a racist and hates all foreigners. Clinton should have already been convicted for her role in Benghazi, and her e-mails. Do we see a problem here? I will not be voting, but will be utilizing my passport if necessary!
The USA pays all this money to help other countries too and nothing to help its own citizens. Only make it more difficult for us and our leaders worry to much about offending other countries instead of focusing on our issues. There is no candidate that has earned my vote and therefore I will more than likely not be voting either. I only participated in local and state elections, not federal elections. I was also thinking one but no more than two terms for congressional leaders as well. Angela Abbassi
I somewhat agree with Angela Abbassi , term limits should be put in place. 1 term would be great, but I don't think that would ever pass. I would be happy with a 2 term limit. But to also go along with a term limitation, we need to end the life long pension for all of these elected officials. They should have to pay into a pension plan and a medical plan just like everyone else. I think if that was passed, we would see a majority of the then elected politicians actually looking to solve the problems that we have in our country. I also believe that we need to stop giving money to other countries, we need to focus on our veterans and homeless before we give to other countries. I am not sure that I would go so far as to say that Trump is a racist. I also don't think he hate foreigners, I think he hates anyone that is here illegally. I totally agree that Clinton should be in jail on Benghazi alone and not allowed to be running for president. She has too many of her own issues and who she owes her allegiance too, to be the person leading our country. I too do not feel that any of the candidates has earned my vote to this point, but if we don't vote, we get someone else's choice not our own. GILBERTO 102375 CASAS I too do not consider myself affiliated with any party, but I will be voting, I just need more time and info to choose the right candidate for me. Good poll by the way!
I hadn't thought of the life long pensions. You're right though, they should have to pay into it like everyone else. Excellent point! That would get them to work on the real issues and not just their agendas. I have always felt that they do to much for other countries and not enough for veteran's or the homeless as well. I also agree that Trump is only trying to get things straightened out with individuals that are here illegally and as for Hillary, she has gotten away with a lot. Someone else would already be serving time. Its everyone right to choose to vote but I'm keeping an open mind as I do want to vote, just don't want to vote for someone just to vote if they haven't convinced me. Thank you for the compliment! WILLIAM Grimes Let's hope someone will stand out and really get at it and be elected and actually do a great job and focus on out country first.
My comment is two terms is enough because I don't think one term will fly wither GILBERTO
As a country, we've only had one president for life. Yep, most folks don't even know that. Due to his excesses of power, the Democrats voted in term limits after the death of FDR. FDR was the only president we had that thought the two term tradition set by George Washington didn't apply to him.
